Warm Up a Child's Winter

Help a Child Keep Warm and Have Fun this Winter

“Gloves for Good” was a concept I held on to for several years after becoming single again and trying to raise two great kids in a much lower income. I was waiting for the “perfect” time. Any single mom will tell you there is no perfect time to do any thing above the normal hectic schedule of parenthood.

All too often I saw children from single parent homes wearing those bright ninety-nine cents winter knit gloves. They were easily visible as it was these kids who lined the outside wall of the school during recess asking every ten seconds how much longer before they get to go inside. These type of experiences played over and over in my mind.

The “perfect” time was a normal day like any other except I realized there is no such thing as a perfect time. The need was now…today.

Every year, decorated boxes are now placed in businesses by good hearted business owners who want to help. All waterproof gloves are then donated to the Boys & Girls Club of Southeastern Michigan. They then display the waterproof gloves where the neediest children get to go “shopping” for their own winter gloves.

I quote from Albert Schweitzer, Nobel Laureate, 1875-1065 says it all: “The only ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve”.
